Yichang Super Factory Goes Live

On July 15 Envision Energy fired up its Yichang Energy Storage Super Factory in Hubei province and began mass producing 790Ah large format prismatic battery cells. The first batch of cells was shipped to Germany on the same day. The facility is billed as the world's first 100GWh class full industry chain energy storage manufacturing base. Phase I with 40GWh of cell capacity was completed in under a year after breaking ground in October 2025. Phase II which adds 60GWh of cell capacity and another 60GWh of system integration capacity started construction this past April. When fully built out the site will handle everything from individual cells to fully integrated storage systems.

The 790Ah Cell Is the Largest Roll-to-Roll Prismatic Cell Available

The 790Ah cell is the biggest prismatic roll-to-roll energy storage cell on the market right now. Envision designed it using a system level approach rather than just pushing cell specs for the sake of it. The numbers speak for themselves. Volumetric energy density tops 440Wh per liter. Cycle life exceeds 12000 cycles. DC round trip efficiency hits 96 percent. Envision used proprietary materials and AI driven quality control across the entire manufacturing process. The cell has passed multiple high risk safety tests including nail penetration overcharge and thermal runaway. It also holds certifications for market access in over 20 countries and regions.

Two Technical Paths Emerging in Large Format Cells

The large capacity battery space is seeing a split in technical approaches. Envision pushed roll-to-roll manufacturing to 790Ah. Meanwhile Hikmicro introduced a 1175Ah stacked cell design aimed at 4 to 8 hour long duration storage. Both paths roll-to-roll and stacking are pushing the industry toward bigger cells and higher energy density.

System Level Solutions Built Around the 790Ah Cell

With the 790Ah cell in mass production Envision is accelerating its system level offerings. In April the company launched a 12.5MWh AI integrated energy storage system that uses the new cell as its core hardware. Physical AI capabilities are embedded throughout the system's operations. Envision says the solution can boost internal rate of return for storage sites by 4 to 8 percent over the full lifecycle.

Global Orders and Expansion

The global energy transition is picking up speed and demand from AI data centers is adding more pressure. China's State Council recently issued a 15th Five Year Plan carbon peaking action plan targeting 300GW of installed energy storage capacity by 2030. Against this backdrop Envision has secured major orders this year across Europe Africa North America and Asia Pacific. These cover pure cell supply system integration and integrated wind solar storage hydrogen projects.
So far Envision has built 14 battery mega factories across China Japan the United States the United Kingdom France and Spain. Cumulative ESS cell deliveries have passed 100GWh and the company has participated in more than 400 storage projects worldwide. The Yichang facility's ramp up of 790Ah production is a key milestone in Envision's global capacity buildout and signals that China's new energy sector is moving toward exporting systematic capabilities rather than just products.
